Greenslopes will gain a new permanent place to give blood and plasma when Australian Red Cross Lifeblood opens a donor centre inside Greenslopes Mall on 22 September.
More than 1.7 million blood and plasma donations are needed across Australia each year, and Lifeblood says one in three Australians will need donated blood or blood products during their lifetime. The new centre gives Greenslopes and surrounding suburbs a dedicated local place to contribute to that supply.
A New Donation Option Close To Home
The Greenslopes Donor Centre will operate from Shop B1 on the ground floor of Greenslopes Mall at 700 Logan Road, with appointments listed from Tuesday, 22 September.
Both whole blood and plasma donations will be available. Lifeblood lists the site as accessible, with donor parking available and entry through the underground car park next to Jetts Fitness.
Public transport is also close by at Logan Road at Greenslopes Mall, stop 24. Bus routes 172, 175 and 189 service the stop.
For local donors, the significance is largely one of convenience. Rather than relying only on mobile or pop-up services operating at particular locations and times, Greenslopes will have a dedicated donor centre operating throughout the week.
More Donation Capacity Matters
The new centre is opening at a time when demand for blood and plasma remains high across Australia.
Lifeblood says a blood donor is needed somewhere in the country every 18 seconds. The pressure was particularly evident through the winter of 2026, when Lifeblood reported record winter demand for blood and said around 8,000 units of blood, plasma and platelets were being issued as urgent or life-threatening orders each month.
Those donations are used well beyond emergency transfusions. Blood and blood products support people undergoing cancer treatment and major surgery, trauma patients, mothers and babies, and people living with a range of serious medical conditions. A single blood donation can help up to three people.
Plasma is another important part of the picture. Plasma-derived medicines are used in the treatment of more than 50 medical conditions, including immune disorders, cancer, haemophilia, kidney conditions and burns.
That makes a permanent centre capable of collecting both blood and plasma a significant addition for Greenslopes and surrounding suburbs.
From Individual Donors To Local Teams
The Greenslopes location will also be available for group donations through Lifeblood Teams, allowing workplaces and other groups to organise donations together.
Group donations already make up a substantial part of the national supply. Lifeblood reports that 36 per cent of blood donations are made as part of a Lifeblood Team.
For nearby businesses, workplaces and community groups, the new centre provides another local option for organising regular donations without having to wait for a mobile or pop-up collection.
A Permanent Option For Brisbane’s Inner South
The Greenslopes centre will add a permanent donation option to an area also served by mobile and pop-up services.
These include the Holland Park Pop-up Donor Centre at Holland Park Sports Club and the Fairfield Mobile Donor Centre at South Brisbane District Cricket Club. Lifeblood also lists mobile collections at Queensland Children’s Hospital in South Brisbane.
The difference at Greenslopes is the availability of a dedicated centre operating throughout the week, making it easier for people in Greenslopes and nearby suburbs to fit blood or plasma donation into their routine.
The centre arrives after a record year for donations nationally. More than 580,000 active donors made over 1.6 million donations during 2025, but demand for blood and plasma products has continued to grow.
