Tigers vs WM Seagulls: Brisbane Fight Valiantly But Fall Just Short

The Brisbane Tigers mounted a spirited second-half fightback against Wynnum Manly in Round 13 but their valiant efforts ultimately fell just short as the Seagulls held on for an 18-16 victory. Tigers vs WM Seagulls kicked off at 3:00 p.m. last Saturday, June 8 at the Totally Workwear Stadium.

Wynnum Manly came out of the gates firing, with lock Josh Stuckey grabbing a first-half double to help the home side race out to an 18-6 lead at the break. The Seagulls looked in complete control after their blistering start.

However, the Tigers refused to go away quietly. Led by a phenomenal individual performance from centre Kane Bradley, Brisbane turned the tide in the second stanza.

The towering Bradley was simply unstoppable, scoring two tries while racking up 193 run metres, 79 post-contact metres, 2 line breaks, 5 tackle busts and 2 offloads in a true master class of powerful centre play.

Despite Bradley’s herculean efforts, the Tigers just couldn’t quite get over the line as Wynnum’s first-half burst proved too much to overcome.

Tigers captain Ryley Jacks bemoaned his side’s slow start as the ultimate difference maker.

Jacks said that their atrocious first half really hurt them with those two sin bins and lack of discipline. “If we can fix that up, I back us to win games like this,” he argued.

Tigers vs Clydesdales: Brisbane Look to Continue Momentum Against Winless Foes

On April 6, Saturday, defending premiers Brisbane Tigers will host the Western Clydesdales at Totally Workwear Stadium for a crucial Hosplus Cup matchup. Tigers vs Clydesdales kickoff at 3:00 p.m., with the women’s teams facing off at 1:20 p.m. for the BMD Premiership.

The Tigers (1-2) come into this game looking to build on their first win of the season, a dominant 24-0 victory over the Jets on March 24. Ricco Falaniko, Marion Seve (twice), Treigh Stewart, and Leivaha Pulu all crossed the line for the Tigers, who held a 4-0 lead at the halftime break.

Last season, the Tigers had the Clydesdales’ number, winning both the home and away fixtures. On April 23, the Tigers edged the Clydesdales 32-28 at home, before securing an 18-34 victory on the road on July 8.

The defending premiers will be looking to build momentum against the winless Clydesdales (0-2). The visitors have struggled to find their form in the early stages of the season, and the Tigers will be aiming to capitalise on their opponent’s troubles.

Search for the new CEO

In other news, the Tigers organisation has announced that they have begun the search for a new Chief Executive Officer, following the March 18 news that current CEO Brian Torpy will be stepping down from the role after 8 years.

Torpy will remain in the position until August 3, where he will oversee the completion of Stage 2 of the Langlands Park facility before his departure.

“The time is right for a change and to pass the baton on to my successor”, Torpy said. “It’s been a privilege to have served the Club and I am proud to have been part of such a great team that has put the Club in a position to hopefully move into the NRL.”

The Tigers will be hoping to provide their fans with a positive result on Saturday as they look to climb the Hosplus Cup standings and build momentum ahead of the remainder of the season.

Tigers vs Jets: Defending Premiers Looking to Roar Back After Shaky Start

The defending premiers Brisbane Tigers have a chance to shake-off a 0-2 start as they take on the Jets at Totally Workwear Stadium. The Tigers fell 24-30 to the Falcons in their home opener before suffering a 38-12 drubbing at the hands of the Northern Pride in Cairns. Tigers vs Jets kick off this Sunday, March 24 at 1:00 p.m.

Brutal loss against Northern Pride

As the Pride match progressed, the home team’s superior conditioning and game plan seemed to give them an edge over the tiring Tigers.

“The first 60 minutes was a real grind. We were able to go into half time with a narrow lead [14-12]. We showed a lot of resolve in our defensive line and that really set-up the second half performance,” said Pride coach Eric Smith.

Smith credited his team’s fitness for allowing them to take control late in the contest against the talented but flagging Tigers.

“With 20 minutes to go I thought physically we were able to put the foot down. They started to look tired and we were able to accelerate away.”

The Tigers, loaded with current and former NRL talent as well as experienced Queensland Cup players, will look to get their groove back against a team that they dominated twice last season. They handed the Jets a 54-20 thrashing at home, while also cruising to a 24-46 victory on the road.

After their sluggish start, the defending champs are surely hungry to kick-start their title defence with a strong performance in front of their home fans.

Brisbane Tigers To Reopen Newly Revamped Langlands Park Stadium

After more than a year of work, the revamped Totally Workwear Stadium at Langlands Park, the home of Brisbane Tigers, will finally reopen soon.

The newly transformed boutique stadium, which will be able to seat up to 4,000 spectators will reopen in April 2023.

The historic venue has been given a $10 million revamp as part of the rugby club’s plans to earn an NRL licence in the near future. The team was disappointed after failing to secure the 17th team licence. Still, they have high hopes to become the 18th NRL team.

With the new Totally Workwear Stadium, the Brisbane Tigers will be given an opportunity to train and play on a first-class playing surface whilst utilising their back-of-house facilities. Meanwhile, guests including their sponsors will be able to comfortably watch the matches.

Works for Langlands Park also involved relocating the 1933 pavilion on the site and building a two-storey building with modern facilities such as a 45-seat theatre, corporate suites, media rooms and administration offices.

The 1933 pavilion, which is on the heritage list and was once the change rooms for the Eastern Suburbs Cricket Club, has been moved between the heritage grandstand and the current scoreboard.

“The provision of a first-class training and playing facilities at Totally Workwear Stadium will complement the Langlands Park sporting precinct, which will include swimming pools and a 24-7 commercial gymnasium,” the Brisbane Tigers stated in its website.

“The redevelopment of the grounds is extremely important for the club and the community. The current change rooms were constructed in the 1960’s and 1980’s and have served the community well for over 60 years but are now needing of an upgrade to state and national level competition standard.”

Beyond the sports facilities, guests can expect a new canteen, an espresso bar, and a merchandise shop located on the new single-story building on the western side of the grounds.

Totally Workwear Stadium is anticipated to become a great facility not just for rugby league but also for competition games throughout Queensland, school competitions and carnivals, local games and finals, and other sports and events of the community.
