Greenslopes is home to a traffic signal box that offers an imaginative take on the suburb’s future. Located at the intersection of Logan Road and Chatsworth Road, Aquatic Slopes is part of Artforce Brisbane, a community art program that transforms traffic signal boxes into canvases for original artworks created by Brisbane residents.

Created by Gabrielle Davis and friends, Aquatic Slopes imagines Greenslopes beneath the sea. According to the artwork description, the concept was developed by housemates who once lived up a very steep driveway on Roseglen Street.

The artwork depicts a resident walking dogs and a cat along the sea floor in a version of Greenslopes where the suburb’s green trees have been replaced by aquatic life. The artists describe the imagined setting as one that may have resulted from climate change, while noting that although nothing is what it once was, “it is marvellous nevertheless.”

Displayed on a traffic signal box at the corner of Logan Road and Chatsworth Road, the artwork forms part of a wider collection of community-created artworks across Brisbane through the Artforce Brisbane program.
About Artforce Brisbane
Artforce Brisbane gives Brisbane residents the opportunity to paint their original artworks on traffic signal boxes throughout the city. The program welcomes participants of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, encouraging individuals, families and friends to collaborate on creative projects in their local communities.
Schools, community groups and organisations can also participate, with Artforce Brisbane helping to identify suitable traffic signal boxes for group projects. Residents can register to receive notifications when new traffic signal boxes become available for painting.
Since its establishment, Artforce Brisbane has encouraged community participation by turning everyday pieces of public infrastructure into spaces for original artwork. Each traffic signal box reflects the ideas and creativity of the artists who designed it, contributing to a diverse collection of public art across Brisbane.

For Greenslopes, Aquatic Slopes offers a locally inspired artwork shaped by the experiences of former Roseglen Street housemates while presenting an imaginative vision of the suburb beneath the sea. As part of Artforce Brisbane, it highlights how local residents can share their creativity through public art in their own neighbourhoods.
