Upgraded Langlands Park Memorial Pool Officially Opens

The refurbished Langlands Park Memorial Pool at Panitya Street in Stones Corner has been officially reopened in time for summer.

Construction works for the Langlands Park Memorial Pool upgrade, which commenced mid-August 2018, has finally been completed. Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner graced the event marking the official opening of the complex on 7 December 2019, as families were treated with loads of free food, entertainment, and family-friendly activities.

The upgrade project was jointly funded by the Council and Storytime Swim Centres, the lessee and operator of Langlands Park Memorial Pool. The newly refurbished complex features an upgraded and repositioned 50-metre outdoor pool, a new 25-metre pool, a new program pool, and a new aqua park.

There is a fully accessible site with ramps into the 50-metre and 25-metre pool, as well as accessible change room facilities. All amenities were upgraded and new landscaping completed the $8-million upgrade work throughout the complex.

There has been a 46-percent increase in pools patronage over the past four years, Brisbane City Council reported, with the average number of visitors increasing each year.

Council pool patronage per financial year:

  • 2015/16 – 2.1 million
  • 2016/17 – 2.5 million
  • 2017/18 – 3.1 million
  • 2018/19 – 3.2 million

“More than 3.2 million residents visited Council pools in the past financial year and we have been pleased to see that people continue to love these centres, as patronage has increased year-on-year,” Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said.

“When speaking to residents across Brisbane, I often hear how people love to visit their local pools, as they continue to be a place to meet, connect and play.

“Brisbane has wonderful climate and a great outdoor lifestyle with 280 days of sunshine each year and Council pools are just one of the many ways that our residents and visitors can make the most of our enviable lifestyle.

“We have upgraded Council pools across Brisbane to allow even more residents to enjoy these fantastic offerings,” Cr Schinner said.

“These improvements will make sure the facility remains an enjoyable, modern and family-friendly destination now and into the future.

Council pools that underwent upgrades include Sandgate Aquatic Centre,Bellbowrie Swimming Pool, Runcorn Swimming Pool, and Langlands Park Memorial Pool  .

Brisbane City Council set the upgrade in stages to make sure that a program pool is available at all times for pool patrons. This is made possible by maintaining access to the existing learn-to-swim pool whilst the new facility is being built.

Upon completion of the 50-metre pool, BCC will readily make it available for use whilst they continue with the other works to complete the upgrade. Council will be keeping locals informed of construction activity in their area.
