Coffee Mentality, which operates cafes across Brisbane including a popular outlet in Stones Corner, has earned national recognition after its Olfactory filter specialty blend was crowned Champion Coffee at the 2026 Royal Tasmanian Fine Food Awards. The Brisbane roaster topped a field of 133 entries from across Australia to take home the competition’s highest coffee honour.

The winning blend, Olfactory, was judged the best coffee among 133 entries submitted by roasters from around the country. Melbourne’s Griffiths Bros Coffee Roasters received the Reserve Champion title for its Wellspring Organic espresso blend, while Tasmanian producers also made a strong showing, contributing around 20 per cent of all entries.
Coffee Mentality celebrated the result on social media, saying the award came as a welcome surprise after entering the competition for the first time. The Brisbane business said receiving the Champion Coffee title was especially meaningful and thanked the Royal Tasmanian Fine Food Awards for the recognition, adding that it was grateful to be part of the awards program’s 31-year tradition of celebrating Australia’s food and beverage producers.
Founded in 2015, Coffee Mentality has grown from a mobile cafe into a Brisbane-based specialty coffee roaster headquartered in nearby Woolloongabba. Today, it operates a network of cafes across the city, including Stones Corner, while also supplying wholesale customers through its social franchise model. The business says it aims to use coffee as a way to build community and create positive social impact both locally and internationally.
Its award-winning Olfactory is a specialty filter coffee blend developed by Coffee Mentality, known for its cherry, berry and jammy sweetness. The company describes it as an aromatic coffee with vibrant fruit-forward flavours and aromas.
High Standards Across Australia
The Champion Coffee award was decided during judging at Lottie Lane Coffee Roasters in Moonah, Tasmania, as part of the Royal Tasmanian Fine Food Awards.
Food and Wine Events Manager Carolyn Petkovich said this year’s coffee competition attracted an exceptionally high standard of entries from across Australia. She said it was encouraging to see Tasmanian roasters competing alongside many of the country’s leading coffee producers, with more medal awards presented than in previous years because of the overall quality of the field.
The Royal Tasmanian Fine Food Awards recognise excellence across a wide range of Australian food and beverage categories. Running from April to September each year, the program includes judging for baked goods, preserves, chocolate and confectionery, honey, tea and tisanes, cheese and dairy products, seafood, pantry items and coffee.

The Champion Coffee title marks another achievement for Coffee Mentality, which operates a network of cafes across Brisbane while remaining connected to the local communities it serves. Customers visiting the Stones Corner cafe can try the same Olfactory blend that impressed judges and claimed the competition’s highest coffee honour.
