More than a year after her nine-month-old son was severely burned in an alleged hot coffee assault at Hanlon Park in Brisbane, Luka’s mother has announced she is expecting another baby.
Family Update Amid Recovery
The family shared the update in early February 2026, revealing they are preparing to welcome a baby girl due later this month. The announcement comes as Luka continues his recovery and as the investigation into the 2024 incident remains active.

Since the attack on 27 August 2024, Luka has undergone at least eight surgeries. He suffered burns to his chest, neck and face after a man allegedly approached him at Hanlon Park in Stones Corner and poured hot liquid over him before fleeing.

His treatment has included synthetic skin grafts, skin needling and laser procedures. Luka’s mother has previously stated that her priority remains securing justice for her son while supporting his ongoing medical care.
The pregnancy announcement marks a significant personal milestone for the family following months of hospital visits and recovery procedures.
Background To The Hanlon Park Incident
Police described the 2024 incident as deliberate and unprovoked. Authorities released images of a man seen leaving the park shortly after the alleged assault and appealed for public assistance.
Investigators believe the alleged offender departed Australia on 31 August 2024, shortly before he was formally identified. Police have since indicated the alleged offender is believed to be in China.

Australia and China do not have a formal extradition arrangement in place. In late January 2026, China’s ambassador to Australia said a working group would travel to Brisbane to engage with Australian authorities about the case.
Queensland Police and the Australian Federal Police have stated they remain committed to progressing the matter. The Hanlon Park baby case remains under investigation.
