On April 6, Saturday, defending premiers Brisbane Tigers will host the Western Clydesdales at Totally Workwear Stadium for a crucial Hosplus Cup matchup. Tigers vs Clydesdales kickoff at 3:00 p.m., with the women’s teams facing off at 1:20 p.m. for the BMD Premiership.

The Tigers (1-2) come into this game looking to build on their first win of the season, a dominant 24-0 victory over the Jets on March 24. Ricco Falaniko, Marion Seve (twice), Treigh Stewart, and Leivaha Pulu all crossed the line for the Tigers, who held a 4-0 lead at the halftime break.

Last season, the Tigers had the Clydesdales’ number, winning both the home and away fixtures. On April 23, the Tigers edged the Clydesdales 32-28 at home, before securing an 18-34 victory on the road on July 8.

The defending premiers will be looking to build momentum against the winless Clydesdales (0-2). The visitors have struggled to find their form in the early stages of the season, and the Tigers will be aiming to capitalise on their opponent’s troubles.

Search for the new CEO

In other news, the Tigers organisation has announced that they have begun the search for a new Chief Executive Officer, following the March 18 news that current CEO Brian Torpy will be stepping down from the role after 8 years.

Torpy will remain in the position until August 3, where he will oversee the completion of Stage 2 of the Langlands Park facility before his departure.

“The time is right for a change and to pass the baton on to my successor”, Torpy said. “It’s been a privilege to have served the Club and I am proud to have been part of such a great team that has put the Club in a position to hopefully move into the NRL.”

The Tigers will be hoping to provide their fans with a positive result on Saturday as they look to climb the Hosplus Cup standings and build momentum ahead of the remainder of the season.

Tigers vs Jets: Defending Premiers Looking to Roar Back After Shaky Start

The defending premiers Brisbane Tigers have a chance to shake-off a 0-2 start as they take on the Jets at Totally Workwear Stadium. The Tigers fell 24-30 to the Falcons in their home opener before suffering a 38-12 drubbing at the hands of the Northern Pride in Cairns. Tigers vs Jets kick off this Sunday, March 24 at 1:00 p.m.

Brutal loss against Northern Pride

As the Pride match progressed, the home team’s superior conditioning and game plan seemed to give them an edge over the tiring Tigers.

“The first 60 minutes was a real grind. We were able to go into half time with a narrow lead [14-12]. We showed a lot of resolve in our defensive line and that really set-up the second half performance,” said Pride coach Eric Smith.

Smith credited his team’s fitness for allowing them to take control late in the contest against the talented but flagging Tigers.

“With 20 minutes to go I thought physically we were able to put the foot down. They started to look tired and we were able to accelerate away.”

The Tigers, loaded with current and former NRL talent as well as experienced Queensland Cup players, will look to get their groove back against a team that they dominated twice last season. They handed the Jets a 54-20 thrashing at home, while also cruising to a 24-46 victory on the road.

Sweet (and Savoury) New Spot for Souffle Pancakes in Greenslopes

What started as a humble market stall has blossomed into a Brisbane souffle pancake phenomenon. Souffle Japancakes has taken the city by storm, growing from its original Eat Street Markets home base to now having not one, but two permanent cafe locations.

Their latest outpost has just opened in Greenslopes, serving up the same signature wobbly, jiggly souffle pancake stacks that have developed a cult following across Brisbane.

This small hole-in-the-wall cafe holds a unique distinction – it’s the first Souffle Japancakes venue to offer dedicated gluten-free souffle pancakes. That’s right, coeliacs and gluten-free diners can finally experience the viral fluffy pancake trend without any worries  thanks to their specialised gluten-free pancake grill.

Of course, those without dietary restrictions can still indulge in Souffle Japancakes’ original gluten-filled creations. The menu offers both sweet and savoury varieties, from crème brûlée and matcha toppings to eggs benedict and smoked salmon stacks. No matter your order, expect a pillowy soft, delightfully jiggly pancake tower that’s sure to have you drooling.

Body Found in Burnt-Out Car in Greenslopes

Residents of Greenslopes were shaken yesterday, 26 February 2024, as news broke of a body found inside a burnt-out car near the Annerley Football Club.

The car was reported on fire in Pear St, Greenslopes, just after 2am. The scene is next to the Thompson Estate Reserve and Annerley Football Club.

Authorities have not yet determined whether foul play was involved, sparking concerns within the community about the safety of their neighbourhood.

Karla Vaughan, a resident of the area, described her shock when police knocked on her door in the early hours of the morning to inform her of the grim discovery.

“I heard loud explosions. I called (firefighters) and the police,” Vaughan said.

“When I saw a lot of flames I was afraid the fuel tank would explode.

“But the fire crews were here in about five minutes, I could see them coming along Ridge St.”

The car park, where the vehicle was found, is usually a peaceful spot. However, a groundsman working for the adjacent football clubs has reported finding needles in the area in the past. This has raised concerns among the residents.

Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, reported seeing a significant police presence and forensic officers diligently working at the scene.

“I walk my dog there regularly and have noticed some suspicious vehicles parked there over the last few months,’’ they said.

A crime scene was declared shortly after the discovery of the deceased person inside the vehicle.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any relevant information to authorities through Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

New Owners Revive No More Knots in Greenslopes

No More Knots, a popular remedial massage chain in Greenslopes, is returning triumphantly after enduring a tumultuous receivership period. Elisha McDonald and her husband, Grant Jenkins, have taken the reins of No More Knots, buoyed by the steadfast support of loyal customers.

Mr Jenkins, a former strength coach to sporting luminaries like Ash Barty and John Millman, joins his wife in steering the company towards a promising future, safeguarding 60 jobs.

Despite the challenges posed by a controversial takeover by a United States company, No More Knots’ outlets in Greenslopes, Taringa and Newmarket continue to serve the community.

Whilst Ipswich Massage and Herbal Spa, also under the purview of the US-based Rayont Holdings, succumbed to closure in May last year, No More Knots stands firm, poised for resurgence.

Ms McDonald’s acquisition of the Greenslopes building signifies a new chapter for No More Knots, preserving the brand’s objectives amidst uncertainty.

With a focus on nurturing a supportive work culture,  Ms McDonald’s dedication extends beyond business revival, as evidenced by efforts to accommodate staff affected by the liquidation of a Brendale supplements supplier.

Her reverence for No More Knots’ founder, Kelly Townsend, underscores the commitment to honouring the company’s legacy. Ms Townsend’s vision, originating in humble beginnings beneath her house in 1998, now stands as a testament to perseverance and resilience.

As No More Knots embarks on its journey of rejuvenation, Ms McDonald’s vision includes sponsoring local initiatives like the Red Dog Triathlon, embodying a renewed commitment to community engagement and excellence in service provision.

Earlier in their Brisbane getaway, the pair stopped for coffee at the posh Dicki’s Ascot, which is best known for its plant-based menu. When it comes to her diet, Kourtney is devoted to plant-based eating – her lifestyle website Poosh declares she eats almost entirely vegan, sticking to it about 95 percent of the time.

Kourtney and Travis are believed to be staying at the luxurious Calile Hotel during their Australian visit. Though they had no security detail with them, fans readily recognised the stars and asked for selfies. The pair kindly stopped to chat and pose for photos around town.

Whilst Travis is touring Australia with Blink-182, Kourtney has been soaking up the sights in Sydney with her two youngest kids, Penelope and Reign. Her eldest son Mason opted to skip this trip.

Coorparoo RSL to Put Pokies at Former Greenslopes Bowls Club

Did you know that Coorparoo RSL has secured approval to install pokies at the former Greenslopes Bowls Club site?

Read: What Lies Ahead for Vacant Greenslopes Bowls Club Site?

Coorparoo RSL plans to relocate its operations to the rundown bowls venue after selling its home of 60 years in Coorparoo in 2021.

Coorparoo RSL reportedly considered installing up to 120 machines at Greenslopes, but the club’s CEO Chris Satori said there are no plans to increase beyond the approved 50 machines. He stated that would require an extensive regulatory and community consultation process that the RSL does not intend to undertake.

The RSL expects to spend $3.5 million renovating and refitting the Greenslopes site. Some Coorparoo RSL members expressed disappointment that the club is moving out of the suburb after 60 years. They felt there should have been an in-person vote rather than a postal vote, which allegedly attracted 80 responses in support of the Greenslopes relocation.

Those opposed to the project allege that Greenslopes residents were not properly consulted about the use of the former public bowling greens site and that the venue should be used for community benefit like arts, music and childcare rather than pokies.

A proposal has been floated, seeking to ban pokies at Council-owned venues in the future and transforming those venues into hubs for arts, music and community activities.

“The last thing the community needs is more pokies. Australians lose approximately $25 billion to gambling every year, including $11 billion from pokies in pubs, clubs and venues other than casinos,” said Member for Griffith Max Chandler-Mather.

“Exploitative pokie machines don’t enrich our community spaces, they are expertly designed for addiction and have already destroyed thousands of Australian lives. And when people live close to pokies venues, they are more likely to experience serious financial and mental health consequences,” he said.

However, Cr Fiona Cunningham said most local residents support the RSL’s renovation plans and continuing bowling and live music activities.

Mr Satori said the club undertook an exhaustive search for a new venue before recommending the former Greenslopes Bowls Club. He said the relocation will allow the RSL to continue supporting veterans and local community groups.
